Strawberry Festival 2008
On 28th and 29th June in Vinschgau
Lovers of strawberries can not miss the appointment with the Strawberry Festival in Martelltal Valley on 28th and 29th June 2008.The Martelltal Valley, thanks to mild and dry weather, is the major producer of this fruit! The strawberries ripen here and thanks to fresh and pure mountain air they taste and smell extraordinary!
Highlight of the party: a giant strawberries’ cake, which entered in the Guinness of Records. The cutting of the cake and its distribution kick off the celebrations. In addition to strawberries, during the festival, you can enjoy many other typical products of South Tyrol, listen to traditional music, attend culinary competitions, do romantic carriage tours, do guided visits to the field trials of strawberries and to the Cooperative MEG (Producers Cooperative Val Martello).
During the festival will be also electing the Queen of Strawberries 2008.
The festival enshrines the beginning of the collection period that continues until September.

Saturday 28th June , 2008
03.00 pm: Cutting of the giant strawberry cake and electing of the Queen of Strawberries
04.00 pm: “Tschurtschlanklaubn”, a traditional gathering of pinecones of red pine, once used to make medicines, organised for the children
09:00 pm: Night in music with the group Die Hegel from Innsbruck
At midnight: Exhibition of Schuhplattlerinnen, a young group of girls from Pustertal that performs beating their hands on thighs-time music in the most famous and typical Bavarian dance.

In the morning: Visits to trials of strawberries and cooperative MEG
From 11:30 am to 02:00 pm and from 05:00 pm to 07:30 pm: Live music
02:00 pm: concert
In afternoon: Dancing Stars: the queens of local products, as speck, apples and asparagus, dancing in pairs with politicians and athletes in the area
Nomination Kulinarium Martell: culinary competition among the restaurants in the area which will prepare dishes made with strawberries
08:00 pm: Extraction of Greater Lottery
At 08:30 pm: final of the European football championship on giant screen
